Do You Struggle With Acne Scars?

Lets talk everything acne scars - if you have gotten to this stage in your acne journey you probably feel so proud of yourself but also annoyed as these scars can be stubborn to get rid of (I know this because this is where I'm at in my acne journey).

First off you should be proud to show off your acne scars as it resembles how far you have come and how much hard work you put into yourself and your journey to get to this stage - so celebrate & be proud because I am SO proud of you.

The reality is, is that all skin is textured in its own way - we are our worst critics because we are the ones that know our skin best.

We have touched and looked at every inch of our skin so of course we see everything but to a stranger they aren't seeing any of that and they definitely aren't thinking anything of it!

Let's get into the ways we can help clear acne scars naturally!

1. Good quality vitamin c serum

A good vitamin c serum will be your best friend when it comes to helping clear your acne scars - its naturally filled with antioxidants that help brighten up the skin while reducing redness and regenerating new cell turnover.

Vitamin C also helps boost collagen production witch overall helps tissue repair.

The best way I like to use my vitamin C serum is in my morning routine and only using 2-3 drops added into my moisturizer.

A couple of my go-to Vitamin C serums:

Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum

Etymologie Probiotic Vitamin C Concentrate

2. Don't pick at your pimples

I know how easy to it be to get caught up at picking at your pimples but when I say this is such an underrated form of protecting your skin from developing acne scars I mean it - the less you touch your face the less you are spreading bacteria around first of all and second you are just letting your pimple run its course and naturally go away on its own without puncturing a wound that will leave a scar.

Some ways that help me when I have the urge to pick at my face is pimple patches, spot treatment with manuka honey, ice rolling or even just spraying rose hydrosol on my face for a soothing effect.

3. Ice rolling

If you don’t have an ice roller in your routine then your missing out - its one of my favourite practices as it leaves your skin feeling refreshed and rejuvenated!

Ice rolling can help reduce inflammation, improve blood circulation while having that cold compress sooth any irritation from active pimples present.

It also may help speed up recovery of the skin which will overall help improve acne scars.

These cryo-globes are a great cold therapy tool:

4. Red light therapy

Red light therapy is amazing for reducing inflammation, stimulating collagen production which will inevitably give your skin more strength and elasticity, helps repair wounds and increases blood circulation!

Some ways you can get red light therapy exposure is through an infrared sauna - this is also great for sweating out all the toxins held in the body (personally my favourite way) & also getting facials that include a portion of the time being a red light therapy done by a professional holistic aesthetician.

The Kolya Spa's NEW Ayuna Activate & Awaken Facial includes red light therapy treatment to boost collagen production and speed healing.

5. At-home manuka honey masks

This is another practice that is sooooo soothing for active acne and for lightening acne scars!

Its high in anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties that are super beneficial for fighting those pimples that just don’t seem to want to go away - some ways you can use manuka honey is an at home mask, you can do this 1-3 times per week and leave on your skin for 10-15 minutes.

Another way to use this is just simply as a spot treatment if you don’t want to put all over your face (it can be sticky but so worth it for the feeling after you wash off).

My favourite manuka honey is Wedderspoon Raw Manuka Honey Active 16

6. Eating for your acne scars

You want to make sure you are eating for your acne scars - some of the most important vitamins and minerals that will help you in your journey through acne scars is vitamin c, vitamin a, zinc & omega 3 fatty acids.

Some food rich in these include:

oranges, broccoli, peppers, pumpkin seeds, legumes, chickpeas, salmon, carrots, sweet potatoes, spinach, flax seeds, hemp hearts.

Making sure you have a balanced plate with lots of antioxidant rich foods will ultimately help you and your skin!
